"Though we can't always see it at the time, if we look upon events with some perspective, we see things always happen for our best interests.
We are always being guided in a way better than we know ourselves."

The Porters settled in Pelham, Texas soon after the Emancipation Proclamation in 1866.  They were looking for a place to settle with their families and raise crops.  This was all they knew how to do as most of them had come to Texas as slaves of large landowners and they knew how to grow cotton and food for their tables.

This site is dedicated to our ancestors, who left a legacy far greater than that with which they endowed.
